Upward
Upward. That is where we are all wanting to go. We have a life that is filled with surprise, twists and turns. We make our plans. We celebrate wins. We take life’s lemons and make lemonade. But how do we really grow upward? The secret is revealed in 2 Kings 19:30. We are to take root downward in God’s Word.
God’s Abounding Grace
Since Adam and Eve, everyone has been born into sin. The Ten Commandments and all of the laws of Moses in the Old Testament were put in place so that people would have moral direction. These were not suggestions, they were commandments. Yet men and women still broke the commandments, as we all have the sinful nature we were born with. We are not able to be righteous in our own effort. Even the most righteous of men is still unclean in God’s eyes. So God gave us Jesus, our Savior, to bear our sins for us so that we could stand as righteous before Him.
A Sound Mind
Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 10 that we have a sound mind by bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. So by daily submerging ourselves in God’s Word and letting His desires become our desires, our minds will take on the meekness and gentleness of Christ.
