John 6:35 NKJV
[35] And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
Good Morning!
When Jesus said, “I AM the Bread of Life,” he was saying several things in one.
First, he was declaring that He is the same “Great I AM” that spoke to Moses in the burning bush. The phrase “I AM” is the covenant name of God (Yahweh). “The phrase speaks of self-sufficient existence (or what theologians refer to as “aseity”), which is an attribute only God possesses. It is also a phrase the Jews who were listening would have automatically understood as a claim to deity. The aseity of God is His attribute of independent self-existence. God is the uncaused Cause, the uncreated Creator. He is the source of all things, the One who originated everything and who sustains everything that exists. The aseity of God means that He is the One in whom all other things find their source, existence, and continuance. He is the ever-present Power that sustains all life. There is no other source of life and none other like Him: “For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me” (Isaiah 46:9).” Source Gotquestions.org
Second, He is the bread of life. This statement confused the disciples and those listening as they didn’t understand how they were supposed to eat Him. Jesus was merely making an analogy to the bread (or manna) that God supplied to the Israelites as He fed them in the desert. This food that was provided to them daily was for their physical need, feeding their body. The bread of life is that which feeds our soul and when we eat of it, we will hunger and thirst no more because this bread fills the void in our lives that only Jesus can fill. So Jesus is to the soul what bread is to the body.
So how do we eat of this bread? Simple, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are metaphorically eating of His flesh and drinking of His blood. When we do so, Jesus tells us that we will live forever, meaning we’ll live in heaven in eternity with Him.
Jesus came as a teacher, a servant, a messiah and most importantly a savior. He fulfilled all of the prophesies spoken of Him hundreds or thousands of years before His arrival on earth. He is the only one who can feed our souls. When we eat and drink of Him, our souls are nourished, not once, but forevermore. He is THE BREAD OF LIFE!
Today, we remember the Bread of Life by celebrating Communion. Jesus told us at the Last Supper “to do this in memory of me.” This was to be a continual reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross so that we can live forever with Him. So let us not receive communion lightly, but let us receive it with the passion of Christ, who bore all of our sins upon Himself so that we might have eternal life.
I love you and am praying for you today!

John 6:47-58 NLT
[47] “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. [48] Yes, I AM the bread of life! [49] Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. [50] Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. [51] I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”
[52] Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.
[53] So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. [54] But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. [55] For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. [56] Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. [57] I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. [58] I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”
