Psalm 37:1-7 NKJV
[1] Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
[2] For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb.
[3] Trust in the LORD, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
[4] Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
[5] Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
[6] He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
[7] Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
Good Morning!
As believers in God’s Word and followers of Christ, we must not fret because of those around us that are evildoers. In the workplace, in school, in the community, no matter where you are, you will find people that are not walking with God first in their lives. If we obsess about those people or conversations that we had with them, we will lie awake at night thinking and rehearsing over and over in our heads how we should have said this or should have said that. God clearly tells us not to fret because He will will handle it (see verse 2).
But more-so, we are to trust in The Lord, dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness. We are not be envious of the people that are living for themselves and only what the world has to offer. We are to trust in God and delight ourselves in the Lord so that our focus is on Him and not the things of the world. When we do this, He will give us the desires of our heart. But we must truly become like sheep following the shepherd. We must know His voice and obey His commands.
John 10:27 NKJV
[27] My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
God is on our side. When we commit our ways to Him and put our total trust in Him, He will bring forth our righteousness like the noonday sun. When you think about the noonday sun, it is the hottest and brightest time of day. There are no shadows cast as the sun is directly overhead. Our righteousness will shine to those around us with nothing to hide in the shadows. Just as Jesus is the light of the world, we must reflect His light to those around us so that we would influence them and let God be glorified through His Holy Spirit to work in their lives. You might be the only light in someone else’s dark world. Let your light shine before men (and women).
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
[16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Verse 7 again repeats, “Do not fret and wait patiently for Him” Why is it repeated? Because the Psalmist wants to drive this point home again. The hardest thing for us to do is to WAIT. But God tells us over and over throughout the Bible to wait on Him. We all must be patient and trust that God’s timing is perfect and He will not forsake us. He knows what is best for us and He will work in us at the perfect time. As we commit our ways to The Lord, we can rest in Him since He is carries our burdens.
So as followers of Christ, we should:
1. Trust in The Lord (v3)
2. Delight in The Lord (v4)
3. Commit your way to The Lord (v5)
4. Rest in The Lord (v7a)
5. Wait patiently for Him (v7b)
True faith waits on God confidently knowing that He is able to do what He has promised.
Romans 4:21 NKJV
[21] and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
So as things around you seem to be falling apart. If you feel the burden of life bearing down on you and people around you are prospering when you are not, be confident in knowing that God is in control and His timing is perfect.
I love you and am praying for you today!
