Matthew 11:27-30 NLT
[27] “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” [28] Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Good Morning!
Heaviness of the heart is something that we all have had or will have. When events in our lives go wrong, when a loved one passes, when someone gets diagnosed with a disease or just simple loneliness or depression, these are all things that can weigh us down.
Jesus tells us to come to Him when we are carrying heavy burdens and He will give us rest. That is impossible to do without first knowing The Son (Jesus). When we make the decision of faith to believe that Jesus died for our sins and accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we can give our heavy burdens to Him and he gives us rest for our souls.
Rest for our souls — that just sounds truly amazing! So many people go through this life with no rest for their souls, yet Jesus stands knocking at the door of their hearts just waiting for them to let Him enter in and become Lord over their lives. Notice in Revelation 3:20 it doesn’t say He sits knocking, but He stands knocking, meaning He is actively pursuing our hearts. He wants all of us to be one of His own, a sheep in His flock, one of His beloved. He pursues us, yet He is a Gentleman and will not enter unless we open the door to our hearts and let Him in.
Revelation 3:20 NKJV
[20] Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Some people think that it is just too hard to be a Christian — too many rules to follow, too much work doing all that reading and praying, too much this, too much that. Jesus tells us that His commands are not burdensome. He first just wants us to love Him and when we do that, our hearts will automatically align with His commands. It is sort of like a GPS that we follow in our cars. When we make a wrong turn, it recalculates and brings us back on course. Jesus will do that to our hearts as we draw closer to Him, He will direct our paths and give us a hope and a future.
1 John 5:3-5 NKJV
[3] For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. [4] For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. [5] Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV
[11] For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
So whatever heavy burdens we carry, we know that we have God on our side. He will lift those burdens from us as we just yield to Him and His word. We can ask anything of God and have the confidence that He hears us and gives us what we ask for, if it is pleasing to Him.
1 John 5:14-15 NLT
[14] And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. [15] And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.
I love you and am praying for you today!
